- 4-low-1-high is projected to appear 190 times – it appeared in 216 times in the actual draw.
- 0-low-5-high is supposed to be drawn 32 times – it was drawn 22 times in the real draw.
As a EuroMillions player, you should pay attention to the composition of your combination and make sure that it follows either the 3-low-2-high or 2-low-3-high patterns. And never play the rest of the low-high patterns.

November 2009 – Changes to EuroMillions Format
On 7th November 2009, EuroMillions’ 11-rollover limit was replaced by a jackpot cap of €185 million. In the event of the jackpot reaching €185 million, it would remain there for one additional draw before being rolled down to winners in the next prize tier. Additionally, the jackpot cap would be increased by €5 million once reached.
The price of a EuroMillions ticket also increased from £1.50 to £2. The price increase heralded the launch of a new supplementary raffle game, ‘Millionaire Raffle’, on 13th November. Included in the EuroMillions ticket’s new price, UK players would get the chance to win a guaranteed €1 million every week by matching the raffle code printed on their ticket with the code revealed during a EuroMillions draw.
Changes Summary
- Rollover cap replaced by €185 million jackpot cap, increased by €5 million each time it is reached
- New supplementary ‘Millionaire Raffle’ introduced in the UK

The Odds of Winning The EuroMillions
The National Lottery EuroMillions game is a 5/50 lottery format. So the rule is to pick five numbers from 1 to 50. We compute the total combinations by using the Binomial Coefficient formula.
So there are 2 million possible ways to combine five numbers in EuroMillions. However, to win the jackpot, you are required to match the extra two lucky stars so that the actual odds become one is to 139.8 million.
If you think about your odds, you have a better chance of becoming the next Prime Minister of the U.K. In short; it is tough to win in the EuroMillions.
In perspective, on the average, you have 139.8 million attempts to win the jackpot. If you play 100 tickets every week, then you have 1.4 million weeks or 27,000 years to hit the jackpot.
Twenty-seven thousand years is such a long time. You’ve got to be very lucky to win.
The EuroMillions lottery is a random game. You cannot predict the next winning numbers.

The Odd-Even Patterns Based On The Actual EuroMillions Results
Remember that in the list of the odd-even patterns above, we included the probability value. We use the probability value to determine how likely an event will happen in a given period.
In this case, we want to know the frequency of each odd-even pattern. To take things up a notch, we will compare our calculation against the actual results of the EuroMillions.
There are 1,276 draws in EuroMillions from April 16, 2004, to February 4, 2020. Therefore, we calculate the expected frequency by multiplying the probability by 1,276 draws.
Expected Frequency = Probability X 1,276
In the case of 3-odd-2-even with the probability of 0.3256621797655230, the expected frequency will be 416.
Doing similar computation with the rest of the odd-even patterns, we will come up with a completed comparison table below with accompanying graph:
As you see from the graph above, you should notice the agreement between probability prediction and the actual results of the EuroMillions game. The agreement proves that the EuroMillions game follows the dictate of probability principle.
- 3-odd-2-even is expected to appear 416 times – it occurred 461 times in the real draw.
- 4-odd-1-even is projected to appear 190 times – it appeared in 184 times in the actual draw.
- 0-odd-5-even is supposed to be drawn 32 times – it was drawn 31 times in the real draw.

September 2016 – EuroMillions Overhaul
September 2016 saw sweeping changes made to the EuroMillions format, including the introduction of new supplementary games in six countries and a €2 million increase to the minimum jackpot. The price of entry was increased as follows:

The price change covered the cost of new raffles and supplementary games implemented across Europe. With the new games came the introduction of a Europe-wide raffle event, the European Millionaire Maker. The first European Millionaire Maker raffle took place on Friday 28th October 2016, with 25 winning codes selected.
Another big change was the introduction to the game of a 12th Lucky Star; the odds of winning in each prize tier changed as a result:

The UK’s popular ‘Mega Friday’ promotional draw — which saw multiple £1 million raffle prizes and luxury non-cash prizes awarded on the last Friday of each month – also saw a major change. The event was expanded to offer prizes in two consecutive draws and was renamed ‘Mega Week’.
All changes came into effect as of Saturday 24th September 2016, with the very first Mega Week beginning on Tuesday 27th September. Ten raffle prizes of £1 million plus a 100-day round-the-world trip were given out, and a special €130 million Superdraw took place on Friday 30th September. Mega Week ran for nine months, with the last Mega Week draws taking place on Tuesday 25th and Friday 28th June 2017.
Changes Summary (General)
- Minimum jackpot increased from €15 million to €17 million
- European Millionaire Maker raffle introduced
- Ticket price increased in all participating countries
- The number of draws in which the jackpot could stay at its cap before triggering a rolldown increased from two to five
- Number of Lucky Stars increased from 11 to 12, resulting in a change to the odds of winning individual prizes
Changes Summary (UK)
- UK Mega Friday transformed into Mega Week, an occasional event that offered multiple Millionaire Maker prizes, and non-cash prizes including luxury holidays
- Number of UK Millionaire Maker prizes offered per draw increased from one to two. The chances of winning improved from 1 in 4.8 million to 1 in 1.9 million for a Tuesday draw, and from 1 in 7.5 million to 1 in 2.95 million for a Friday draw

- ‘Ireland Only Raffle’ supplementary game introduced to Ireland, offering ten €5,000 prizes every draw

Combinatorial Patterns in EuroMillions
Let me describe a mathematical method that will catapult you to Euro Million’s success. Deep within the finite sets of EuroMillions numbers are combinatorial patterns that should tell you the best combinations to play and the worst ones to avoid.
The image above describes the complete randomness of a lottery game. It shows that the lotteries are made up of independent random draws that, when put together with time, exhibit a mathematically deterministic behavior given the law of large numbers. Let me clarify that we don’t need statistics to determine the best combinations in a lottery game. Statistics is not the right tool to analyze a lottery game.
So if statistical analysis will not provide the best clue, what will?
Well, since the lottery has a finite structure, any question that we ask is a combinatorial and probability problem to solve rather than statistical.
So instead of statistics, we need the concept of combinatorics and probability theory. These two mathematical tools will help predict the general outcome of the EuroMillions game from the perspective of the law of large numbers.
This prediction is possible because a truly random lottery follows the dictate of probability.
Again, we can explain this better from the context of combinatorial patterns.
For example, we can ask:
“What is the probability that the next winning numbers will be 1-2-3-4-5?”
To solve this question combinatorially, we can rephrase the question this way:
“What is the probability that the next winning numbers will be three-odds and two-even numbers?”
Can you see it? Composition matters.
And the composition of a combination is best described using a combinatorial pattern. You can look at combinatorial patterns in many different ways. There are simple patterns and there are Lotterycodex patterns.
